German Tropical

Artist: Schlachthofbronx (Munich, Germany)
Title: Lights Off feat. Nicky Da B (2014)

Schlachthofbronx have been killing it for years. It seems like so often after putting a couple of successful dance records, a group will often just stick to the genre that made them famous and never reclaim their original glory. For this German duo, however, that simply hasn’t been the case. Instead, since their initial 2009 effort, we’ve seen a steady stream of relevant releases that draw from influences as diverse as kuduro, kwaito, dancehall, and even cumbia. Lights Off, featuring the late New Orleans bounce rapper Nicky Da B, is interesting because it works at a wide range of tempos and doesn’t really quite fit into any pigeonhole, making it an awesome dj tool and all-around fascinating listen.

Portland’s DJ Panaflex has been spinning the weirdest of mixes in his bedroom since late last year. We’re proud to bring you his freshmen effort, Summer is a State of Mind. At just over 50 minutes, this mix features 17 examples of why getting a midi controller and a copy of Traktor Pro was something he couldn’t put off a second longer.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be sharing with you his notes on the tracks that make up Summer is a State of Mind.
